这个绿色的笔记本电脑既便宜又方便,人人都有机会拥有哦!
COMPUTERS are useful. But not everybody can have one, especially people in poor countries. How good it would be if everyone could have a computer!
On November 17, at the United Nations Net Summit (联合国信息社会世界峰会) in Tunis (突尼斯), American scientist Nicholas Negroponte showed a model laptop (笔记本电脑模型) that could cost only US$100.
People call this laptop "green machine". It has a bright green rubber case (橡胶外壳) that's not easily broken.
The "green machine" uses very little power. To recharge (充电) it, one uses a wind-up crank (手柄). A minute's winding gives enough power for 40 minutes of use.
It also can be used as a TV, a game console (游戏机) and an electronic book.
Scientists hope it can help children in poor countries with their studies. It could help them share advice and homework tips with each other.
A non-profit (非赢利性的) group called One Laptop Per Child will make the laptop. "Green machines" could be sold to governments (政府) in poor countries next February. So far, Thailand and Brazil have shown interest in the idea.
