[高三]Get a fresh start in 2011

如何制定可行的新年目标?

词数 363 建议阅读时间 5分钟 测试见7版

NEW year is here, but are you prepared for the coming 12 months? It’s a good idea to think about what you want to achieve in 2011. Why not make a list of 30 books you would like to read? And perhaps you could lose some weight. How about trying to drop 10 kilograms before the new semester begins?

But, baby steps, guys. Baby steps.

Most of us default on our new year’s resolutions, and it’s hardly surprising. We aim too high and expect immediate results. Experts say it’s time to reexamine our approach.

“The way we go about resolutions doesn’t really work,” says Mike Robbins, a US life coach and author. “People have these great intentions but they don’t have any support to make them happen.”

Robbins suggests making clear, goal-oriented resolutions. Your goals need to be more specific than, “work harder next semester,” he says.

“What you should be doing is making specific actionable promises to yourself that you can actually keep,” says Trisha Calvo, executive editor of Shape magazine.

Be sure to write down your resolutions. Tape them to the wall. Share them with someone, and check with every few months to stay on track.

Below are some examples of realistic resolutions.

Weight loss

Dropping double-digit (两位数的) kilograms in two months can be unrealistic. Instead, decide to walk an hour seven days a week, or trade an afternoon cake for an apple or banana, Calvo says. See the changes as a new lifestyle.

Remember, each kilogram of weight loss should be celebrated. “Congratulate yourself with small rewards – a new book, a relaxing day, great running shoes,” she says.

When it comes to eating healthily, eating more slowly, and not eating in front of the TV are obvious resolutions. “When you sit down and focus on your meal, you get more than the substance (营养),” Calvo says.

Keeping a journal

This year, make it a new year’s resolutions to spend a little bit of each day writing down the highs and lows. Perhaps that sounds difficult, but think that in the future you will be able to look back on your journal and have a vivid sense of what your life was like in the crucial adolescent (青春期的) years.
