Best place for Disney? (P1)
河北省邯郸市第一中学  王永仙
Ⅰ. Lead-in
Have you ever been to Disneyland?
If you have, what impressed you most?
If not, which attraction interests you most?
Where do you think the perfect place to build
a Disneyland in Europe would be? Why?

Ⅱ.Skimming
Read the article quickly and answer the question
•What is the main idea of the article?
•How Disneyland has managed to survive for so long in France, a place that’s been described as anti-American.

Ⅲ.Scanning
Read the article carefully and answer the following questions
1. What were the advantages and disadvantages of opening a Disneyland in France?
2. When was Disneyland in France opened?
3. According to NPR, what are the reasons for France’s “anti-Americanism”? Can you give an example?
4. Has Disneyland been well received in France? Why/why not?
5. How is France’s way of life compared to before?

1. What were the advantages and disadvantages of opening a Disneyland in France?
Having a year-round comfortable climate and being close to several European countries, many thought that Paris was the perfect location for Europe’s first Disneyland. But culturally speaking, Paris was probably the least logical choice. This is because France is known for its attitude called “anti-Americanism”.
2. When was Disneyland in France opened?
It was opened in 1992.
3. According to NPR, what are the reasons for France’s “anti-Americanism”? Can you give an example?
1) According to NPR, “America poses a danger to everything the French hold dear.”
2) For example, France is famous for its fancy cuisine and people there usually spend a long time over meals. But the US’ fast food – hotdogs and hamburgers, to name two – introduced a completely different dining style. And in the film industry, while French culture values low-plot and high-art films, Hollywood’s fast-food-style film productions may seem of low taste in the eyes of the French.
4. Has Disneyland been well received in France? Why/why not?
Yes. The park has been there for 25 years. And according to The Telegraph, Disneyland Paris was visited by nearly 15 million people last year, half of whom were French.
5. How is France’s way of life compared to before?

France is changing. Slowly, its way of life is beginning to resemble that of the country it loves to hate. Today, even though French people are still seen as “aloof” and proud of their own culture more than anything, they are already a part of the trend of globalization and there is no getting out of it.

1.Do you like taking photos of yourself and sharing them on social media?
2. Do you think there is anything in common between your selfie and self-portraits by great artists? Why or why not?

Ⅱ.Skimming
Read the text and answer the question below.
•What is the writing genre of this article ?
 A. Narration (记叙)
 B. Description(描写)
 C. Exposition(说明)
 D. Argumentation(议论)

Ⅲ.Scanning
Read the article carefully and divide it into some parts. Then work out the main ideal of each part.
Part 1 (Para 1): An introduction to the topic.
Part 2 (Para 2 3 4): The main features of the exhibition called From Selfie to Self-Expressions.
Part 3 (Para 5 6 7): Hurst considers the smartphone selfie a way for people to express themselves.

B. selfies are a better way to express oneself than self-portraits from master artists
C. a celebrity's selfie is more likely to become a masterpiece than one of an ordinary person
D. our selfies have something in common with great artists' self-portraits

根据In support of the idea, the Saatchi Gallery has a new exhibition called From Selfie to Self-Expression, which is running now until May 30的提示可以知道展览的主题是前面提到的the casual pictures we take of ourselves do have something in common with self-portraits by the great masters
