Basketball is popular in the US and worldwide, because it’s a sport which just needs a wall with a hoop and a ball to play. The global success of basketball is a reflection of the major cultural shifts in America, such as from segregation to integration. It’s also believed that there’s a strong link between political liberation and basketball.

1. How did basketball affect the cultural shift?
•African-Americans were prohibited from playing in NBA games before the 1950s.
•Earl Lloyd first started to play for the Washington Capital team.
