The remarks of Chris Evans and Winston Duke show that people think highly of Stan Lee and his achievements.

According to the study, the experiment showed that two parts of the brain are highly active, suggesting our brain needs to _________ __________ to make a proper decision.The proper number of options for a person is probably “somewhere between 8 and 15”. Thus, when people have a large number of options to choose from, they may feel a lot of stress.

Read the text, and answer the following questions.

 

1. How was the new study published in Nature Human Behavior carried out?

In the study, volunteers were given varying sets of six, 12, or 24 landscape pictures. They were asked to choose one to be printed on a coffee mug. While they chose, a machine recorded their brain activities.

 

2. Is 12 the magic number for decision making?

No. Although the researchers reported that two parts of the brain are likely to be more active for the 12-item set than the other two sets, it doesn’t mean 12 is the magic number for decision making.

The proper number of options for a person is probably “somewhere between 8 and 15”. 

 

3. What does the author mean by saying “Essentially, our eyes are bigger than our stomachs”? 

The phrase “eyes bigger than his/her stomach” means that to take more food than he/she can eat. But in this text, it means that people tend to want more choices than what they actually need.
