The Jim Crow laws were state and local laws that enforced (实施) racial segregation (种族隔离) in the Southern United States. African-Americans couldn’t use certain hotels, restaurants, or even gas stations.

Green Book
Green Book is a 2018 American biographical (传记体的) comedy-drama film. Set in 1962, the film is inspired by the true story of a tour of the Deep South by African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley and Italian-American bouncer (保镖) Tony Vallelonga who served as Shirley's driver and bodyguard.

Read the text carefully to find the following aspects of the film.
1. The plot
In the film, the black pianist Don Shirley hires Italian-American Tony Vallelonga to drive him to performances, but they face problems because of Shirley’s skin color. These problems lead them to form a special friendship.

2. The main characters
Don Shirley: an African-American pianist, a black man
Tony Vallelonga: an Italian-American driver, a white man

3. The setting
Between late 1870s and 1960s, many parts of the country had Jim Crow laws. These laws made life and travel dangerous for African-Americans. They had to be indoors after sunset or they might go to jail.
In 1936, a black mail carrier named Victor H. Green had an idea. He made a list of friendly businesses in New York City. He published the list as a small book with a green cover. The Green Book helped African-Americans travel more safely.
