What’s in a nation? (P2)
I. Reading
1. Because it ended up promoting separation and led to the loss of national identity.
2. It could allow them to follow their own traditions freely within their nation.

A novel with legs (P4)
I. Reading
2. B。线索为after many complications (错综复杂)。
3. B。 强加于) his will on his young employee – but Jane resists.以及后面的it was out of the respect that these two come to hold for each other。
II. Language study
2. John’s decision to travel alone around Europe doesn’t sit well with his parents.

First impressions last (P5)
1.A。 与第一印象相矛盾的新经历受到其情境的限制(be tied to /by sth 意思是:be restricted by a particular situation, job etc, so that you cannot do exactly what you want),因此他们只在该情境下才会起作用,而其他情境下,还是第一印象为主。
They found the new information influenced participants’ reactions only in situations like the one in which it was formed.

Dealing out a little hope (P6)
1. A。由文中作者的儿子对待三个试图偷食物的流浪汉的态度可知他是一个善良、有同情心的人;由第四段“The officers were told the situation was under control and the police were no longer necessary.”
4. D。由最后一段“my son gave them something they were in desperate need of – a small amount of self-respect and a little bit of hope.”
