‘Helicopter parents’ take off (P3)
I. Pre-reading
Discuss the following questions with your partner.
 How do you get along with your parents?
 Do you think your parents are overprotective of you?
 What would you do if your parents were overprotective of you? If you think they are, how do you feel about it?

II. Reading

Fill in the blanks with the correct words based on the article.
Robots 3-D Robotics’ Iris+ drone Budgee
Functions It acts as your own personal cameraman or 1. photographer. It is literally a basket on wheels and can help people 7. carry up to 22.7 kg of items.
How they work The drone is fitted with 2. cameras and has a “follow me” function. It 3. connects with your GPS-enabled Android device, like a mobile phone. Then it flies and 4. follows you around, shooting action footage of you from above. The software in the drone makes sure that you’re always in the 5. center of the frame.  To make Budgee follow them, its owner will have to wear a small 8. device and use an app to set the 9. distance between themselves and the robot. 分析:为了生动地描写动作,down和up等副词可以放在句首,引起全部倒装。另外,前后两句也采用了对照(Contrast)的修辞手法,即把意义相反的字词、短语或句子等平行地排列起来,在结构上对称,揭示出事物间的对立或矛盾。

2. Remembering that he lost a huge fortune because he stopped three feet from gold, Darby profited from the experience in his chosen work …
释义:达比牢记自己由于止步于离金子仅三英尺远而丧失掉巨大财富的教训,他的这段经历让他在新的行业里获利……
分析:remembering…是动词-ing形式作状语,在文中表示原因,其动作是主语动作的一部分,与谓语表示的动作或状态(几乎)同时发生。分词作状语一般均要用逗号同其他成分隔开。
