Answer the following questions:
1. What do the books such as The Great Gatsby, Lord of the Flies and The Catcher in the Rye have in common?
The writers of these books were all white men.
2. What effect could reading mostly white male views have on students? Why is this?
It could have a negative effect on students because of social oppression.
3. What has been one of the after-effects of male domination?
Women a hundred or so years ago were not encouraged or expected to write, so we're left with literature that seems unbalanced.
4. What do books such as The Kite Runner and The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts respectively have in common?
These books are more culturally relevant to students, and their themes include power and justice, family, and women's rights.
5. What does Hancock junior Sandra Rodriguez think of the school's reform ?
She welcomes her school’s efforts to replace some of the traditional high school reads which just talk about men. She feels that they never show women actually doing something and students should read something they feel good about.
6. Why are some students against the school's reform?
Some students warn that there is a fine line between a curriculum that reflects their culture and one that is trying too hard.

It is made up of about 3,000 coral reefs and 1,050 islands along the northeast coast of Australia.

UNESCO threatened to place the Great Barrier Reef on the World Heritage in Danger list.  
4/ Who is to blame for the damage to the Great Barrier Reef?
Humans have played a big part in its damage. Poor water quality, caused by factors such as agricultural runoff and fishing practices, is an important problem.
5/ Why would the Great Barrier Reef become sick?
Agricultural runoff gives the coral-eating starfish the nutrients they need.  As it has also suffered from tropical storms and bleaching, when the coral loses the organisms that live on it when the water gets too warm, the Great Barrier Reef has been very sick.
