I. Warming up   

1. Boys, have you ever heard somebody tease you with the phrase “like a girl”?

2. Girls, what is your response when you hear the phrase “like a girl”?   

II. Skimming 

Look through the passage and find its main idea.

III. Scanning 

Read the passage again and answer the following questions.

1. What is one achievement that has made people change their attitudes to the phrase “like a girl”?

2. Will women’s amazing achievements have a lasting impact on the sports world?

Yes. 

3. Why does Nazareth Academy think women’s sports are more interesting?

Women’s style of play is so much more skillful because they are playing more as a team instead of as individuals.

IV. Sentence structure

Read the sentences and pay attention to their structure.

1. The US women’s national soccer team won the World Cup, making the US proud.  

making the US proud 为现在分词短语做结果状语。

Eg. The snow lasted a week, resulting in a serious traffic problem in the whole area. 

V. Vocabulary

1. But now, due to the success of female athletes in the US, people are starting to think about the phrase a little differently.

catch on (to): begin to understand or realize something

Eg.  It was a long time before the police caught on to what he was really doing. 过了很久,警方才明白过来他究竟在干什么。

4. It may take time before women’s sports get more attention, but ...

before: used to say that something happens after a period of time  ……之后才。

Eg. It was several minutes before we realized what was happening. 几分钟之后我们才明白发生了什么事。
