Discuss the following question with your partner.
 What do you know about AIDS and HIV?
HIV is a virus that gradually attacks the immune system, which is our body’s natural defense against illness. If a person becomes infected with HIV, they find it harder to fight off infections and diseases. The virus destroys a type of white blood cell called a T-helper cell and makes copies of itself inside them.
AIDS is a syndrome caused by the HIV virus. It happens when a person’s immune system is too weak to fight off many infections, and develops when the HIV infection is very advanced. This is the last stage of HIV infection, a stage in which the body can no longer defend itself and may develop various diseases, infections and if left untreated, death.
There is currently no cure for HIV or AIDS. However, with the right treatment and support, people can live long and healthy lives with HIV. To do this, it is especially important to be treated correctly and deal with any possible side effects.

Key:
1. B。 When he was five, he had a tube surgically inserted in a vein in his chest. This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack on his back. Medications were hooked up to this pump and were continuously supplied through this tube to his bloodstream. At times, he also needed oxygen to support his breathing. 根据本段“From the very beginning of his life, he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive.”可排除A。
Tyler’s mom often teased him by telling him that he moved so fast she needed to dress him in red. That way, when she peered through the window to check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him.

Nobody doesn’t like her.

2. He grew quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV-infected mother.
分析:句中“so do …” He passed the exam, and so did I.
