Heroes who fly (P4-5)
I. Pre-reading
Discuss the following questions with your partner.
 Do you watch cop movies?
 If so, which one is your favorite? What is it about? Why do you like it most?

II. Reading
Read the article and answer the following questions.
1. What did The Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper think of the film Point Break?
According to The Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper, Point Break is “this year’s most ambitious and groundbreaking action movie”.

2. What is the film mainly about?
The film follows Johnny Utah, a former extreme athlete who has joined the FBI. Utah goes deep undercover to make friends with a group of extreme athletes, led by Bodhi. The athletes are suspected of carrying out several international heists in extremely unusual ways. However, as it turns out, this crew is not in it for the money, as the athletes always give their gains to poor communities. In fact, they are out for spiritual satisfaction. They have kept pushing their boundaries to complete various athletic challenges in the most dangerous natural conditions.

3. How is Point Break different from other cop movies according to the article?
Unlike other cop movies, Point Break doesn’t draw a clear line between good and bad.

4. What is the movie’s message according to the article?
The movie’s message is that people should do something with their lives that they’re deeply passionate about.

III. Language study
1. Jumping off the top of a mountain in a suit fitted with wings might sound like a death wish to many people, but for the main characters from the Hollywood blockbuster Point Break, it is just one of the worthwhile things they do in their lives.
这是一个由but连接的并列句,前一个分句的主语是Jumping off the top of a mountain in a suit fitted with wings,第二个分句的主语是it, it指代的是第一个分句主语所述的内容。短语fit with表示“给……装配……”;death wish指的是“(有意识或无意识的)死亡愿望”。

2. “The movie will have you on the edge of your seat, especially as you think about the fact that not only was it shot for real, but this type of flying usually never has more than two people in line together and this scene had four,” ...
