VII. Usage tip
1. Showering can help to raise our level of dopamine.
Raise和rise都有“上升”的意思
Raise是及物动词,后面必须有宾语,即“某人把某物举起来”。
Rise是不及物动词,后面不能加宾语,即“某人、某物自己升起来”
2. People vary in terms of their level of creativity according to the activity of dopamine.
in terms of 意思较多,可译为“在...方面,关于…”,“依据、按照……”, “从……角度来说”

No. He went out to have a look, but there was no sound when he got there.
3. What was the animal in the stovepipe?
It was a squirrel.
4. Did the animal leave immediately when the author gave it a path?
No. The squirrel leaped out of the stove, but it didn’t head outside. Instead, it made a mess in the author’s room.
5. What was the animal actually afraid of?
The squirrel was actually afraid of the author.
6. Why did the author clean the TV room in the end?
Because the squirrel had made the TV room into even more of a mess than it was, to the point where he could stand it no longer.

VII. Usage tip
1. The scratching continued even as I entered the room...
1) as可用作连词引导时间状语从句。含义为"当……的时候",且主句和从句的动作同时发生,具有延续的含义。例如:You will grow wiser as you grow older. 你会随着年龄的增长而越来越聪明。
2) as用作连词引导原因状语从句时,一般放在句首,语气较弱,较口语化。 例如:As rain has fallen, the air is cooler. 因为下过雨,空气比较清爽。
3) as还可作连词引导让步状语从句,含义是“虽然,尽管”;表示的语气较强,同时引导的让步状语从句用倒装语序。例如:Strange as it may seem, nobody was injured in the accident.这次意外虽然显得令人不可思议,却没有人受伤。
