Fun facts about Mars:
Mars is nicknamed the red planet because it is covered with rust-like (铁锈般的) dust. Even the atmosphere is a pinkish red, colored by tiny particles of dust thrown up from the surface.
Mars experiences violent dust storms which continually change its surface.
Mars has many massive volcanoes (火山) and is home to Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in our solar system (太阳系), it stands 21km high and is 600km across the base.
Post-reading
Mars has a very thin atmosphere made mostly of carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). It is not thick enough to trap the Sun‘s heat like Venus (金星), so the planet is very cold. Temperatures range from -120℃on winter nights to 25℃ in the summer.
Mars has many channels, plains and canyons (峡谷) on the surface which could have been caused by water erosion (侵蚀) in the past.
Mars has very weak gravity (重力) which cannot hold onto the atmosphere well.
The polar ice caps (极地冰盖) consist of frozen Co2 (dry ice) which lies over a layer of ice.

Fun facts about Nobel Prize in Literature:
1. 113 individuals have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 1901-2016.
2. The average age of all Literature winners between 1901 and 2016 is 65 years.
To date, the youngest Literature Laureate is Rudyard Kipling, best known for The Jungle Book, who was 41 years old when he was awarded the Literature Prize in 1907.

1. About Shenzhou spacecrafts:
Shenzhou is a spacecraft developed and operated by China to support its manned spaceflight program. Its design resembles (类似) the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, but it is larger in size. The first unmanned flight of the spacecraft was launched (发射) on Nov 19, 1999, and the first manned launch was on Oct 15, 2003. In March 2005, an asteroid (小行星) was named 8256 Shenzhou in honor of the spacecraft.
2. On April 12, 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space. The rocket carrying Gagarin‘s Vostok 1 spacecraft launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome at 6:07 am local time. Reaching unprecedented speeds for manned travel, the spacecraft broke free of the Earth’s gravitational pull (地心引力) and entered orbit around the planet, circling once before re-entering the atmosphere and landing back on Soviet soil. The total mission lasted just 108 minutes, and the trip once around the Earth at 17,500 mph (most of the way) took less than an hour and a half.
