Flights are often canceled for many different reasons, including snow, clouds, a bird getting caught in an airplane’s engine, and high temperatures.

The answer lies in how dense, or “thick”, the air is.

As air warms up, it expands and there’s fewer molecules under the wings . 

When the temperature is high and the air becomes thin, more thrust and distance are needed for a plane to take off. More distance is needed for a plane to land. It gets to a point for some aircraft that it gets just too much.
