3. According to Jeff Bezos, why is being frugal the key to success? 
Because he believes that frugality drives innovation, just like other constraints do. 
 
    The World Savings Day was established on October 31, 1924, during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress in Milano, Italy. The Italian Professor Filippo Ravizza declared this day the "International Saving Day" on the last day of the congress. 
In the resolutions of the Thrift Congress it was decided that 'World Thrift Day' should be a day devoted to the promotion of savings all over the World. In their efforts to promote thrift the savings banks also worked with the support of the schools, the clergy, as well as cultural, sports, professional, and women's associations.

Jeffrey Preston Bezos is an American technology and retail entrepreneur, investor, computer scientist, and philanthropist, best known as the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Amazon.com, the world's largest online shopping retailer. The company began as an Internet merchant of books and expanded to a wide variety of products and services, most recently video streaming and audio streaming. 
When the financial markets opened on July 27, 2017, Bezos briefly surpassed Bill Gates to become the world's richest person, with an estimated net worth of just over $90 billion.

Read the article carefully and answer the questions.
1. What features makes giraffes distinct from other species?
•They have unusual patterns and incredibly long necks.
 
2. How long and how heavy is a giraffe’s neck on average?
•It’s massive neck measures on average 180 centimeters and weighs about 270 kilograms.
 
3. What’s the difference between the theories of “evolution” and “competition” in the article?
•Evolution: giraffes evolved to have longer necks than before, which helped them survive by reaching the food from higher branches.
•Competition: the giraffes with the biggest necks have a better chance to reproduce, which passes this feature down from generation to generation.
 
4. What does the word “this” in paragraph 12 refer to?
•It refers to the phenomenon that the increase of the surface area makes it easier for things to keep cool. 
 
IV. Language focus - sentences
1.The most commonly believed answer is that the massive (巨大的) neck – which measures on average 180 centimeters and weighs about 270 kilograms – evolved to allow the animal to reach the leaves of tall trees.

2. It was Darwin’s belief that the giraffe once had a much shorter neck, but over time, evolution led to longer-necked giraffes being born, which in turn survived as they were able to reach the food that others couldn’t.
• It是形式主语,真正的主语是第一个that引导的从句;
• which引导定语从句,修饰longer-necked giraffes;
• 第二个that引导定语从句,修饰先行词food.
 
3. A 1996 study by two South African zoologists argued that the male giraffes with the biggest necks are the ones who “win” access to females to reproduce, as they are better at fighting, meaning that their long necks are passed down through the generations.

4. But until we find the truth, we should at least enjoy this beautiful and interesting creature for what it is today, rather than wonder about where it came from.
•until引导时间状语从句;what it is today作for的宾语,where it came from是介词about的宾语。划线两处是wh-引导的两个宾语从句,注意其语序为陈述语序。
