1. Do you know what an astronaut is?
An astronaut is a person who is trained to travel in a spacecraft.
2. What qualities do you think astronauts need to do their job?

NASA Astronaut Requirements
 A bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics.
 At least three years of related professional experience obtained after degree completion OR at least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time on jet aircraft.
 The ability to pass the NASA long-duration astronaut physical. Distant and near visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 for each eye. The use of glasses is acceptable.
  Astronaut candidates must also have skills in leadership, teamwork and communications.

1. Main idea
The text mainly talks about NASA’s new job requirement. NASA  now wants astronauts to have a sense of humor in addition to the usual qualifications.

Answer the following questions:
(1) Why does NASA want someone with a sense of humor?
Since a mission to Mars would be stressful, someone with a sense of humor would be needed to pull everyone together.

(2) How far is Mars away from Earth? How long would a trip to Mars take?
140 million miles (225 million kilometers).
Around eight months.

(3) Who was Adolf Lindstrom? What did the team leader think of him?
He was a cook in a team on a journey to the South Pole, led by a Norwegian explorer.
He had the ability to make people laugh through the whole journey.

(4) What other requirements does NASA want in an astronaut besides being humorous?
An astronaut also needs to be an excellent scientist and engineer and in top physical condition.

Just as gentle rain is good for people, so does mercy, which means kindness and forgiveness,  benefits them.
We choose to forgive someone whom we have the right to punish, and this makes the world a better place to live in.
