Step I: Lead-in

1. Ask students what sports they like and whether they had watched a certain game with their father or mother.

2. A brief introduction of American baseball games. (or this can be played at the end of the lesson as an extension of the article.)

Step II: Fast reading

1. Skim the passage quickly to find out the main idea of it in about 30 words.

Step IV. Mock writing

Students can do group work to finish this part

Write a similar experience to the article like a concert, a football match, a basketball game, etc.

First students choose their subject and have a group discussion

Then students write down their writing structure with each part having a main idea

Then students develop their writing and revise their work after they swap

Several pieces of fine work should be appreciated or revised together with all the students after most of the students have finished the task, if time allows.

1. favorite -- We had tickets to watch our favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, play in its first home game of the season. This adjective shows their happiness and excitement.

beautiful -- We entered the stadium and then we saw the field for the first time. It was beautiful. The grass was perfectly cut. The lines on the field were painted bright white. The sky was blue. It looked like a painting. But it was real. This adjective shows they were impressed by the view.

important -- The details of the game are not important. Just know it's a sport where one team tries to score more than the other and fans take it very seriously. This adjective shows that there are more important aspects to baseball than the details of the game.

popular -- Baseball is considered America 's pastime, it is the sport that has been very popular for generations, which means it's very important. And it is, but not because of the games, but because of the memories those games create. This adjective shows why baseball games are so important to them.

special -- In the end, I don't remember who won. But I do remember I shared a special moment with my father. This adjective sums up the writer's feeling about this experience and actually all the above together showed what made this experience special.
