1. How many UN agencies are operating in China?
Currently, 15 UN agencies are operating in China, including UNWomen, the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
2. What advice does Meng Jun share for aspiring international humanitarian workers?
Proficiency (n.精通;熟练) in English is a must (n.必要的事物), so seize (抓住) all opportunities (n.机会) to improve your language skills. And if you are interested in a certain area, for instance, gender equality (n.平等), try to get a better understanding of the issue by following the latest research.
3. What can high school students do to develop a deeper knowledge of current affairs?
High school students can take part in UN youth initiatives, such as Model UN (MUN). It requires students to act as delegates from different countries. Like the real UN General Assembly, students must represent their country’s interests through debates, speeches and writing proposals.
4. Fill in the blanks about the MUN.
MUN’s requirements can exercise students’ research ability (锻炼学生的研究能力) and make them develop the habit of paying attention to the world (培养关注世界的习惯).
In recent years, MUN activities have become an important part of China's public diplomacy (公共外交).
After graduation, many outstanding MUNers have directly participated in real international politics (直接参与到实际的国际政治) to propose Chinese ideas.
