Look at the picture below. What do the astronauts have in common?
All of them are male.

Actually there are more people who have walked on the moon, but all of them are male. Read the title of the passage and guess its main idea.

What is the main idea of the article?
It tells us that NASA's Artemis program will send the first female astronaut to the moon by the year 2024. It also explains to us that the progress toward women’s access to space flight programs
has been slow and the reasons behind this phenomenon.

Read the passage again and answer the following questions.
1. What is the difference between the two missions in 1969 and 2024?
   Only male astronauts were sent to the moon in 1969. The Artemis program will send its first female astronaut to the moon by the year 2024.

2. How many people have ever walked on the moon?
   Up until now, only 12 people, all male, have ever walked on the moon.

3. Why has the progress toward women’s access to space flight programs been slow?
   Women have been held back by various requirements and security concerns. The gender bias seemed to exist in the early space programs.

4. What kind of advantages do women astronauts have over their male colleagues?
   Women tend to be smaller, which means they use less oxygen and take up less space in small spacecrafts. Also, women usually have greater emotional awareness and communication skills that make them better-suited to long spaceflights.
