当主语是第一人称、第三人称单数时用 was+done,当主语是第二人称及一二三人称复数时用 were+done

 

3. We have to learn from our mistakes in order to avoid repeating them.

 

avoid  vt. 避免;避开,躲避;消除 

eg. The pilots had to take emergency action to avoid a disaster.

飞行员们不得不采取紧急措施以避免灾难的发生。

They avoid going out alone after dark.

他们避免黄昏后独自出门。

She eventually had to lock herself in the women’s restroom to avoid him.       为了避开他,她最后不得不把自己锁在女厕所里。

 

4. The landing ended in flames (火焰) when the craft exploded about 8 minutes after touchdown.

 

end in + n.     以……为结果;以……告终

e.g.

This will surely end in disaster.

这无疑将以灾难告终。

 

相似用法:

The show came to an end at the sound of the audience’s laughter.

演出在观众的笑声中结束了。

 

5. The key point of today’s test flight was to gather data on controlling the vehicle while re-entering.

gather

vt. 收集;收割;使……聚集;使……皱起

vi. 聚集;化脓;皱起

e.g.

People would gather from near and far.

In the evenings, we gathered around the fireplace and talked.

I suggest we gather enough firewood to last the night.

shot

n. 希望,尝试;

还可以表示“射门;发射;镜头”

v. 射击(shoot 的过去式和过去分词)

e.g.

He had only one shot at scoring a goal.

他只有一次射门在门框内。

I don't expect to win. But I am going to give it my best shot.

我并不期望能赢。但是我要尽力而为。
