Do you know any space telescope?
the Hubble Space Telescope
Since the first astronomical telescope was invented by Galileo, humans have been working hard to develop telescopes to further explore the universe.
the development of space telescopes
The Hubble Space Telescope as the best space telescope up to now, has led us to having a better understanding of the universe.

Beyond Hubble
What is beyond Hubble?
Why does it go beyond Hubble?
How can we achieve this?
Read for main idea
The most powerful space telescope ever built, James Webb Space Telescope, will finally leave Earth later this year and launch a new era in space exploration.

Read the text carefully and answer the following questions.
1. What are the goals of JWST?
James Webb Space Telescope’s (JWST) aims to catch the glow of the first stars formed in the universe and study the formation of galaxies, planets outside of our solar system and newborn stars.
2. How do engineers solve the challenge of the mirror?
Technicians have been simulating zero gravity by using a crane to support the mirrored panels. They effectively have that mirror float like it does in space.
3. What’s the significance of JWST?
JWST’s infrared capability, along with its massive mirror, will allow scientists to see farther back into time.
Scientists want to directly observe how the universe went from hydrogen and helium to stars and galaxies, as well as planets and the conditions that make life possible through JWST.
JWST is expected to take off on an Ariane 5 rocket on Oct 31, followed by “two weeks of terror”. If it goes through the dangers successfully, we will start a truly epic time in which we are pushing the boundaries of what can be known about the universe.
Post-reading
What’s the importance of knowing the universe?
Exploring the origin of life and the influences of space environment on human beings is of great significance to the development of astronomy, cosmology, material science, life science and ideological science.
It depends on and stimulates the development of a large number of high technologies, such as electronic technology, computer technology, remote sensing, new materials, new energy technology and reliability engineering technology.
Language study
1.One of James Webb Space Telescope’s (JWST) key goals is to catch the glow of the first stars formed in the universe. Webb will also study the formation of galaxies, planets outside of our solar system and newborn stars, according to NASA.
2.Given the size of the telescope’s mirror, it will have to be folded to fit inside the launch rocket.
3.JWST is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. JWST is not replacing Hubble, but is rather “going beyond” what Hubble has accomplished by using longer wavelengths.

Based on the passage, write a passage to introduce JWST.
