Universal Studios theme (主题) parks are known for rides (骑乘设施) and buildings based on popular movies and TV shows. They turn things from these movies and shows into reality (现实). Now one of these parks is coming to China! The Universal Beijing Resort (UBR) will open on Sept 20.

UBR is the fifth Universal Studios theme park in the world. As the first of its kind in China, UBR has elements (元素) from Chinese culture to draw Chinese visitors.

 

What is the new land?

The Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness.

The Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is Universal’s first themed area based on the Kung Fu

Panda movies. Its an indoor (室内的) area.

 

When I walked into the place, it was like I traveled back to the night market of the Tang Dynasty, said Lu Peiyao, 26, who took part in a test of the park. It has lanterns (灯笼) and dragons. The restaurants look like ancient buildings, selling noodles and Chinese desserts (点心). Even the areas music is Chinese. Visitors can ride on huge colorful swinging (摇摆的) lanterns or carousels (旋转木马) based on characters from the movies.

To tell a famous Western or even alien (外星人) story about Transformers with a Chinese background, we needed to find a way that Chinese guests will understand and prefer, said Sabrina Han, a park employee (员工). The story features lots of Chinese humor (幽默) and pop culture.

1. need to do sth. 需要做某事;need doing =need to be done 需要……;need做情态动词时表“必须;必要”,后接动词原形。

2. that引导定语从句,指前面所提到的“a way”。

The themed area Transformers Metrobase brings a new story and art style with Chinese elements. Setting the Metrobase headquarters in Beijing, it tells the story of a 750-million-year-old Autobot who tries to save the world. Visitors will become members of an army to join him.

What is the new story about?

It is about a 750-million-year-old Autobot who tries to save the world.

 

Designers (设计师) around the world also carefully studied Chinese culture, such as flying fairies (飞天) and water ink paintings, and used them in the design.

1. designer n. 设计师 design v.& n. 设计;构思。

2. such as 例如;比如。for example 也可以表示“例如”,但通常与所给例句用逗号隔开。

3. flying fairies 飞天;water ink paintings 水墨画;国画。

 

Other parts of the park have Chinese elements as well. There is a statue (雕塑) of two dragons chasing a pearl (双龙戏珠), a common theme in Chinese culture. The shopping street CityWalk borrows Chinese building styles, such as Beijings hutong. Red and gold are used in the lights and ground along the walk.

1. as well too用法基本一致,意为“也”。只是too前可有逗号,而as well前没有逗号。
