            The September 11 attacks, (also commonly referred to as 9/11), were a series of four coordinated（协同合作的） terrorist attacks by the militant Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States of America on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

Location: Manhattan, New York, US. ; Arlington County, Virginia, US. ; Stonycreek Township near, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, US.Attack type: Aircraft hijackings, Suicide attacks, Mass murder, Islamic terrorism

Deaths:2,996, (2,977 victims + 19 al-Qaeda terrorists)

                                                                                         Nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists who were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations hijacked four US passenger planes between 8 and 9 am. Two of the planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. Some 2,750 people were killed in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in Pennsylvania (where one of the hijacked planes crashed after the passengers attempted to retake the plane).

 

            On December 18, 2001, Congress approved naming September 11 “Patriot Day” to commemorate（纪念） the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In 2009, Congress named September 11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

'Metaverse': the next internet revolution?

            Imagine a world where you could sit on the same couch as a friend who lives thousands of miles away, or conjure up(突发奇想) a virtual version of your workplace while at the beach.

            As with many tech buzzwords（流行词）, the definition of the metaverse depends on whom you ask. But broadly, it involves blending the physical world with the digital one.

            With the help of augmented(增强的，扩大的) reality glasses, it might allow you to see information whizz（能人，专家） before your eyes as you walk around a city, from traffic and pollution updates to local history.

            But metaverse enthusiasts are dreaming of a future in which the idea could be extended(延伸，扩大) much further, allowing us to be transported to digital settings that feel real, such as a nightclub or a mountaintop.As workers have grown weary（疲惫的，厌烦的） of video-conferences during the pandemic, Zuckerberg is particularly excited about the idea that co-workers could be brought together in a virtual room that feels like they are face-to-face.
