1. What is WRCC and how does it function?
Dubbed the World Robot Olympiad, WRCC is an international competition that challenges students to design, build and program autonomous robots.
On the 12-by-12-foot (about 3.66-by-3.66-meter) field, two robot alliances race against time to get more points by capturing rings, moving mobile goals to alliance zones and driving on platforms. Each round only lasts two minutes. The one with the most points wins.
2. How did the team build the robot?
They wrote code.
They assembled mechanical structures.
They designed button layouts on their gamepad.
3. What’s the robot like?
The robot they built includes an infrared sensor, a displacement sensor and a bumper switch, which looks like a forklift with two big shovels.
4. What are the robots’ advantages?
They are more powerful and more accurate.
Their robot is also very smart.
Post-reading
“There are endless possibilities when it comes to designing robots. I want to design more useful robots to help people live better.” If you design a robot, what kinds of functions do you want it to have?
People can use robots in different fields. Some work in hospitals, others may work in your home. They can help people do different things. For example, they help workers in factories to work faster. They help you do the housework. With the help of robots, difficult work can be finished in an easier and faster way. They can do the same things again and again and never get bored.

1. It kicked off in Beijing’s E-Town on Sept 9. During the four-day event, it attracted over 2,000 college, elementary and middle school students to take part in the competition.
2. However, it wasn’t easy to build such an “obedient” robot.
3. They saved the high-powered motors for the chassis to provide enough power to help the robot move faster, gaining a competitive advantage.
