    As Merkel prepares to leave office, many think Germany’s ‘golden age’ is over. Under the leadership of Chancellor Angela Merkel, Germany’s power and influence in European — and global — affairs has been indisputable(无可置疑的).

    Now she’s leaving office after 16 years, many Europeans believe the country’s “golden age” is over — including a majority(多数) of Germans, according to a recent poll(投票).

    The survey, conducted by the European Council on Foreign Relations think tank in 12 EU countries in early summer with the results published this week, found that Europeans still regard Merkel as a unifying force, and expect Germany to continue to provide leadership within the EU. Food Facts in China

    October 16 is the World Food Day — a day that commemorates(纪念) the founding of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization on October 16, 1945. To mark this special day, CGTN has put together of food facts in China.

1. Data from The Paper reveals(显示) that the average daily calorie(卡路里) intake for a Chinese person was 3,084 kcal in 2013, twice the amount in 1961.    2. Although grain is the main source of energy for Chinese people, consumption (消耗) of sugar, red meat and fat is higher than ever before.
