She got the inspiration after she visited her family’s home in India.

She made the device on her own with various parts and a 3D printer. It uses nanotechnology to take microscopic pictures of water, which are then examined to determine if contamination is present. She used a neural network to detect patterns in data.
  3. What are the Nereid project’s contributions?
The device is easy to use and less expensive. Besides, not only does the project try to resolve the water crisis, but also it inspires people to learn science by holding virtual workshops and educational summits.

Group discussion: What’s your understanding of science?
Possible version:
As Acharya says, science and scientific experimentation is not a linear (直线型的) process. Though faced with difficulties and challenges, people need to be brave and devote to developing science and technology, because it is a way of discovering what’s in the universe and how those things work today, how they worked in the past, and how they are likely to work in the future. Scientific study is a force continuously contributing to the progress of society. Do remember: science is for everyone, so let’s take STEM seriously.
