News: a sperm whale got stranded
A beached sperm whale returned to the sea after a 20-hour relay rescue in Xiangshan County, East China's Zhejiang province.
The whale, over 10 meters long, was spotted on a beach near Shipu in Xiangshan county on Tuesday morning. Rescuers rushed to the scene as Xiangshan officials organized seven ships to drag the whale back into the surf.

1. Sickness and injury    Animals who are in the final stages of being ill or die at sea can end up getting washed up on a beach.
2. Herd effect    Whales are sociable animals. Distress calls of a member can cause others to follow it to the beach.
3. Depth    Shallow water makes it hard for whales to navigate.
4. Sonar    Changes in electromagnetic fields are linked to strandings. Human underwater sonar activity may shock and confuse whales.

Reflection:
We should be aware of the difference in language features between English and Chinese - including diction (措辞).
Chinese make full use of the same word in the same context, while English speakers try every means to avoid repetition.
Technique:
When we write in English or do C-E translation, we’d better use different words or sentence patterns to express the same thing so as to avoid repetition.
