The Hong Kong Academy Performing Arts


The Academy

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (“the Academy”) is established under The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ordinance (Cap 1135) in 1984. It is a leading tertiary institution (高等教育机构) in performing arts in Asia. It provides professional undergraduate education and practice-based postgraduate (研究生的) studies in Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, Theatre and Entertainment Arts, and Chinese Traditional Theatre. Its education philosophy reflects the cultural diversity of Hong Kong with emphasis on Chinese and Western traditions, and interdisciplinary learning.

Director

The Position

Reporting to the governing Council of the Academy, the Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Academy and the key person to lead the Academy to its next stage of development.

After eight years of distinguished contribution to the Academy, Professor Kevin Thompson will complete his term of office as Director of Academy by the end of August 2012. The Academy is now conducting an international search for his successor.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a PhD or terminal degree in one of the disciplines (学科) of the Academy and other relevant professional qualifications. He/She should be an experienced professional in performing arts, recognized for leadership in artistic and higher education fields, with a deep knowledge of at least one of the Academy’s major arts disciplines and a broad understanding of all. He/She should possess excellent academic and/or significant professional credentials, displaying relevant administrative experience at a senior level in a tertiary institution, arts institute, or major organization relating to performing arts. He/She is expected to have good understanding of international and local circumstances. The right candidate should be a leader with proven ability to effectively manage changes. English is vital, Chinese language is a plus. Strong influential management skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrable track record of developing networks amongst peer institutions and the society at large, are critical.
