Day 4
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
Since it’s home to a famous university, a lot of people think Oxford, an English city west of London, is very wealthy. __1__ Many neighborhoods in and around Oxford are quite poor. Children in these areas often don’t have the best opportunities in life. Some of them never even get to go on holiday.
While a student at university, I ran a charity called Vacproj (short for “Vacation Project”) that helped such children go on holiday. Over a year, we raised money by writing letters to businesses and standing in the street with buckets (桶). We managed to pay for 36 children to go on a holiday. They were aged from about 6 to 11 years old. Altogether, this cost more than 25,000 pounds (232,100 yuan).
These holidays took place every summer in a part of England called Sussex. Around 20 students from my university volunteered to help. Every day, we went on a different trip: one day it was ice-skating, another time we went to the zoo. One day, we went on a trip to a castle. We told them old legends (传说) of the ghosts who lived there and all the kings and queens who had passed through. __2__ For example, on a climbing trip we had to teach the kids about safety and how to use ropes.
__3__ Every day, I had to wake up at 6 am, and I didn’t get to bed until 1 am. The children never, ever ran out of energy, and we were responsible for all of them. Some of the kids were very naughty (淘气的); others refused to eat certain kinds of food. There were always problems to deal with. We had to be their parents for the week, and care for them as parents would.
Though the trip may have been very tiring, it was also the best I’ve ever been on. __4__ They were very funny, and weren’t afraid of making fun of us (a lot of them liked laughing at my rather large ears, for example). __5__ Children may be the most tiring people in the world, but they’re also the most interesting.

A. In fact, that’s not quite the case.
B. We left the holiday with a new perspective (视角) on life.
C. All these trips required a lot of preparation.
D. Some children found it very tiring to go on these trips.
E. At every new tourist site, the kids’ eyes lit up with excitement.
F. The holiday was by far the most tiring experience of my life.
G. Although the trips were tiring, I still found them rewarding.
