A young mother believed that it was wrong to waste any food when there are still so many hungry people in the world.
One evening, she was giving her small daughter tea before putting her to bed. First she gave her daughter Lucy a piece of bread with butter. But the child said she didn’t want it like that. Lucy asked for some jam on her bread as well.
Her mother looked at her for a few seconds and then said: “When I was a small girl like you, Lucy, I had either bread with butter, or bread with jam, but never bread with butter and jam.”
Lucy looked at her mother for a while. She had pity in her eyes and said kindly: “Aren’t you pleased that you live such a happy life now?”
