DAY5
阅读下面材料,掌握其大意,然后从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
For those who would like to travel by train, Australia has a few good options. The prices could be cheaper, but they are about the same as traveling by bus, car, or plane. The only point you must pay attention to before booking your train trip is that on some routes the train travels mostly during the night, so rail travelers will only see stars, weather permitting. But there are day trips, and even journeys that last for days and nights – just pay attention to the schedule. The majority of rail companies in Australia offer tourist passes that you can drop off at a point and start again the next day, just like the Euro Pass. Alternatively, you can buy passes for a certain number of days only.
Most of these rail companies also offer integrated passes, meaning that you buy the package together. For example, the train to Cairns includes a Great Barrier Reef cruise. Depending on what you want to do and for how long, it’s a good deal.

The main train routes in Australia are:
(Clicking on the company name will take you to their website)

Countrylink – Belongs to New South Wales State. Journeys are:
• From Sydney to Brisbane, passing by many rural towns and coastal towns or connections.
• From Sydney to the Outback border or North Territory, passing by many towns from the gold discovery era and mining towns such as Broken Hill.
• From Sydney to Melbourne, passing by Canberra and other rural towns of New South Wales.
Traveltrain – Belongs to Queensland State. Principal routes are:
• From Brisbane to Cairns by the coast, stopping in many cities along the way. There are 3 services (routes) you can choose from.
• To the Outback, also with 3 services to different areas.
• The “Tropical”, which offers short distance rail tours in the region of Cairns and Port Douglas
Great Southern Railway Operates 3 distinctive tourist lines including the transportation of vehicles:
• The first is called The Ghan, and runs from Adelaide, crossing deserts and the “red centre” and finishing in Darwin on the Northern Territory. It is a 2,900 km journey with a stop over in Alice Springs.
• The second is called Indian Pacific, and runs from Sydney to Perth in a journey of 4,350 km. On this route the tourist will have the chance to experience the longest straight rail section in the world, traveling 430 km without turning left or right.
• The third is called Overland, running from Melbourne to Adelaide and connecting with the above trains.

The urban train services of each Australian city can be seen by clicking on the links that follow: Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide. Sydney also has a subway service, and Melbourne and Adelaide have city trams. Both offer day or week passes connecting with local buses. Our tip for when you arrive in one of these cities is to go to a tourist information kiosk and ask for a free timetable for trains, the subway, trams, ferry boats, or any local public transport.
