(忏悔星期二) See the brief introduction What is Shrove Tuesday? Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration before penitence starts. It’s the last day before Lent, which is a Christian fast. In the United Kingdom, and in other countries too, people traditionally indulge themselves on foods that aren't allowed during Lent. In Britain, pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs, all foods that were given up during Lent. What is a Pancake? A pancake is a thin, flat cake, made of batter and fried in a pan. Often in the UK, caster sugar (superfine sugar) is sprinkled over the top and a dash of fresh lemon juice added, although other fillings like fruit, jam or syrup are also common. The pancake is then rolled up or folded into a triangle. Ⅱ. Brainstorm Can you name some traditional Chinese festivals and describe the foods that are eaten on those days?
