Racing ahead to fame (P4)
I. Pre-reading
1.     Have you watched a Formula 1 race?
2.     Tell us something you know about it.
Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1, and referred to officially as the FIA Formula One World Championship,[2] is the highest class of single seater auto racing. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (in English, Grand Prizes), held on purpose-built circuits and public roads. Formula One cars are considered to be the fastest circuit-racing cars in the world, capable of racing at speeds of up to 360 km/h (220 mph).
. Questions
1.     What's Rosberg’s father’s attitude towards his career choice?
His father paid attention to his academic studies, encouraged him to have a wide range of choices, and did not force him to choose F1.
2.     Why did Nico Rosberg finally choose car racing as his career?
His father is a former F1 world champion, and he was trained in it since his youth. Most importantly, he has the gift that was passed down from his father: the gift of excellent F1 race car driving.

I.         Pre-reading
 Short memory game
Rules: You have five minutes to remember the words on list 1, then find which words you remember on list 2.
List 1: read, pages, letters, school, study, reading, stories, sheets, cover, pen, pencil, magazine, paper, words
List 2: house, pencil, apple, shoe, book, flag, rock, train, ocean, hill, music, water, glass, school
Did you say that "book" was on list 1? Only pencil and school were on list 1.

1.Translate the following sentence.
The answer is a mixture of personality, gender (性别) and the methods someone uses to make sense of their feelings.

.  Group work
Let's test our short term memories. Get a tray or a large plate. (The kind of trays from the cafeteria work.) Put 10 to 20 objects on the tray, then cover them with a towel or cloth. Tell your subjects that you have a number of objects on the tray and that you want them to remember as many items as possible. Also tell them that they will have only one minute to view them. Then take off the cover from the tray and start timing them. After one minute, cover up the tray. Have your subjects write down all the items that they can remember. Could they remember all of the items? Are there any items that were forgotten by all the subjects? Teach your subjects some of the memory techniques (see below) and repeat the experiment.
Materials:
        Tray or plate
        10-20 small items (like an eraser, pencil, coin, marble, etc.)
        Cloth or towel to cover the tray
        Paper and pencils for your subjects to write down what they remember
