在这里while的意思是:尽管

While连词的用法:

1. 时,动词用进行时态或表示状态的词。

While Mary was writing a letter, the children were playing outside.

While he is out/ away…

 

2. 而(用以表示对比或相反的情况)

I drink black coffee, while he prefers it with cream.

我爱喝清咖啡而他喜欢加奶油的。

English is understood all over the world while Turkish is spoken by only a few people outside of Turkey itself.

英语世界通行,而土耳其语离开本国就很少有人说了。

 

3. 虽然(=although, 要用于句首)

While I admit there are problems, I don’t agree that they cannot be solved.

尽管我承认有问题存在,但我不同意说这些问题不能解决。

 

IV. Structure

Look atRead the sentences and pay attention to their structure of the sentences.

these digital gadgets (数码设备)  are such an important part of most of our lives that we couldn’t imagine living without them.

such…that如此以致解,连接一个表示结果的状语从句。与so…that 意思相同,但用法不同。

如:so…that这一结构中,so后边可加形容词或副词,而such后边要用名词(这个名词前面可以带形容词,也可以不带)。

such…that的句型结构可分以下三种:

 1) sucha(an)adj.+单数可数名词+that…clause

He is such a clever boy that everybody likes him. =so clever a boy

He was such an honest man student that he was praised by the teacherall of his teachers.

 

2)suchadj.+复数可数名词+that…clause

They are such interesting novels that I want to read them once againover and over again.

3)suchadj.+不可数名词+that…clause

He has made such great progress that the teachers are pleased with himgave him a special award.

注意:如果such后边的名词前由表示多少的manymuchfewlittle等词所修饰的话,则不用 such而用so。例如:

He had so many falls that he was black and blue all over.

He had so little education that he was unfit for this jobwas completely unable to do the job.

但注意下面的句子:

They are such little boys that we like themwe have to keep close watch over them. 此时little是小的可爱的意思。

 

Mico Headphones, designed by Japanese company Neurowear, will be able to read your mind by attaching () a sensor (感应器) to your head.

此处为动词的过去分词做定语,再如:

The man seated at the table is Tom.

The meeting held yesterday was a big one.
