How much do you know about the following things?

1. AlphaGo: n. 一款围棋人工智能程序,由Google旗下DeepMind公司开发
2. Go 围棋
3. 人机世纪大战是指2016年由人工智能系统AlphaGo,挑战世界围棋冠军李世石。根据日程安排,5盘棋分别于3月9日、10日、12日、13日和15日举行,即使一方率先取得3胜,也要下满5盘。最终,AlphaGo以4:1赢得这场“战争”。
4. DARPA是Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency的简称,译为美国国防部先进研究项目局。是美国国防部重大科技攻关项目的组织、协调、管理机构和军用高技术预研工作的技术管理部门,主要负责高新技术的研究、开发和应用。

III. Scanning
Read the passage again and answer the following questions.
1. What are the concerns about AI?
Some people fear that AI is harmful to the human race and the development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. 
2. What is The Economist’s opinion of AI?
It’s not hard to get a computer program to remember and produce facts. It’s hard to get computers to apply their knowledge to everyday situations.
We have a long way to go before AI’s capabilities truly begin to approach the human brain, despite how dominant the technology can be when focusing on a single task.
3. What is John Markoff’s opinion?
Researchers should build artificial intelligence that aims for intelligence augmentation (IA) in which computers make people more effective.
Our fate is in our own hands. Since technology depends on the values of its creators, we can make human choices that use technology to improve the world.
IV. Sentence structure
Read the sentence and pay attention to its structure.
1. Or as The Economist put it: “We have a long way to go before AI can truly begin to be similar to the human brain, even though the technology can be great when it has one task to do. ”
该句中的as sb. put it 为as引导的非限制性定语从句,意为“正如某人所说”。
Just as Thomas Edison put it, "Genius is 99 percent perspiration and 1 percent inspiration.”
V. Vocabulary
Read the passage again and finish the summary of the passage.

II. Skimming
Look through the passage and decide what its main idea is.
A pair of 16-year-old American twins started a campaign called “Warm Hearts, Warm Hands” in February to help those in need.
III. Scanning
Read the passage again and answer the following questions.
1. What was the aim of the campaign?
The aim was to collect new and used gloves with fellow students at Richards High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois in the US.
2. Who joined them in the campaign?
Students and teachers.
3. What did Jack think was the message of the project?
If people know the value of helping others, they can do it anywhere and at any time.
IV. Sentence structure
Read the sentences and pay attention to their structures.
1. The conversations we are having now aren’t so much about what actions we can take, but about the value of taking action.
What 引导的事介词about的宾语从句。
We are having now是定语从句,省略了关系代词that或者which。
2. It is easy to watch the news and only feel like the world is in a terrible place.
feel like意为“想要”,一般后接名词、代词或动名词。feel like 后面可接由 that 引导的从句,意思与 feel as if 相同,作“感觉好像……”解。
I feel like we have to punish him for him to respect us.  
我觉得我们得惩罚他一下,要不然他会不尊重我们。
V. Vocabulary
I don’t need to get on a plane and go help refugees to make a difference.
make a big/ a great deal of / a lot of difference 有(重要)作用,有影响,有关系
