Background knowledge about Halloween
Halloween is a yearly holiday celebrated around the world on October 31, on the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows.  According to some scholars, All Hallows' Eve initially incorporated traditions from pagan harvest festivals and festivals honoring the dead. On this night, it was believed that the spirits of the dead tried to come back to life
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late 20th century.
The tradition of the Jack-o’-Lantern comes from a folk tale about a man named Jack who tricked the devil and had to wander the Earth with a lantern. The Jack-o'-Lantern is made by placing a candle inside a hollowed-out pumpkin, which is carved to look like a face.
One common game is apple bobbing or dunking in which apples float in a tub or a large basin of water and the participants must use only their teeth to remove an apple from the basin.
When trick or treating, if no treat is given, children perform mischief on the homeowners or their property. This is usually done by telling a ghost story or taking a piece of soap and making marks on their windows. Afterwards children go home and count who got the most candy.
Dressing up
Dressing up in costumes is one of the most popular Halloween customs, especially among children. According to tradition, people dress up in costumes (wear special clothing, masks or disguises) to frighten the spirits away.
e.g. vampire skeleton Batman witch
Halloween Food: Halloween Candy Barmbracks Candy apples Taffy apples
Haunted attractions
Haunted attractions are entertainment venues designed to thrill and scare visitors. Most attractions are seasonal Halloween businesses. They include haunted houses, corn mazes, and hayrides, and the level of the effects has risen as the industry has grown. Haunted attractions in the United States bring in an estimated $300–500 million each year, and draw some 400,000 customers.
