IV. Language focus
1. This year in May, the Chinese literary magazine Newriting (《鲤》) started a project called “Anonymous (匿名的) Writing”, collecting short stories submitted (提交) by famous writers as well as by new writers.
现在分词短语作后置定语,修饰project, 相当于非限制性定语从句:which collected short stories submitted by famous writers as well as by new writers.
which were submitted by famous writers as well as by new writers.
分析:as well as 意为“也,还有”,相当于besides, in addition to。
The girl is lovely as well as healthy.
She shares my troubles as well as my happiness.
They have a flat in the town as well as in the country.

Tom as well as his parents is going to London.
His children as well as his wife were invited to the party.

2. This was why we decided to hide the names in this project, freeing people from whatever distraction (干扰) that comes with a name and allowing them to focus only on the value of the writing.
分析:free…from… 。
e.g. This new law freed the slaves from the white people.
Her husband came back, freeing her from heavy housework.
3. And we readers could enjoy writing in a pure way, with everything unnecessary like names and titles – publicity maneuvers (宣传策略) – stripped (剥离) away to leave only literature itself.
He lay on the bed with all the windows shut.
With everything finished, she went home.
It is a great pity that the writer died with his work _________(finish).
