Lead-in
Share with your partner your routines during self-isolation.

Skimming
What does the text mainly tell us?
It tells us why people are less aware of time during self-isolation.

Detail reading

Read the article and learn about different theories.

Language focus
1. Psychologists explain why we seem to lose track of time during self-isolation amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

(1) I quickly lose track of her.
(2) Don't lose track of your goals.
(3) His mind would wander, and he would lose track of what he was doing.

2. In terms of days, for example, you get up at 6 am, start class at 8 am and at 5 pm you go home.

in terms of   在 ……

(1) It can not be measured in terms of money.
(2) In terms of quantity, production grew faster than ever before.

3. And with much of our time spent indoors, we are limiting our exposure (暴露) to natural light, which is an important external factor in resetting our circadian rhythm.

with much of our time spent indoors 为with复合结构在句中作状语,表原因。

(1) With the boy _______(show) the way, we got there easily.

(2) With Frank ____ (help) us, we are sure to succeed.

(3) With everything ____(do), she went back home.

(4) He went to bed early and kept the door _______(open).

4. Maybe we have taken our old routines for granted, and only during this chaotic time have we come to appreciate these anchors that keep us from being set adrift.

(1) take... for granted
(3) keep ... from doing/being done

● take... for granted  认为……

Don't take for granted how much your parents love you.

Don't take my words for granted.

Never for a moment take for granted that I will love you forever.

Only in this way can we learn English.

Only then did I understand what she meant.

Only by shouting was he able to make himself heard.

Only when it rains do you feel cool.
Only when he returned home did he realize what had happened.

Only John can save me.
Only some of the children passed the examination.

● keep ... from doing/being done 阻止……
相当于prevent/stop ... (from) doing/being done (from可以省略),例如:
Her sudden arrival prevented/stopped/kept him from going out.
His advice stopped more mistakes from being made.

Who prevents/stops/keeps the plans from being carried out?
The new laws aim to prevent the rivers and lakes  (from) being further polluted.
