This new kind of telescope was called reflector telescope. It was invented by British scientist Sir Isaac Newton. It was able to magnify objects many many times more than previous telescope designs.

The largest Earth-based telescope is called the Keck telescope. It has a light gathering area that is 10 meters in diameter. It can view celestial objects in very great detail.

The Hubble Space Telescope is the most advanced telescope in history. In 1990 NASA sent one into space. Since then it has been orbiting around the earth. It makes breath-taking new discoveries everyday that give us a much better understanding of the universe.
