Have you heard of “Generation Zers” ?

What does it mean?

Is it necessary to group people according to when they were born?

 

Generation Zers (people born between 1995 and 2010) around the world are becoming more and more influential ( 有影响力的 ). These internet natives ( 原住民 ) are full of energy and ideas. On May 27, a new research center, aiming ( 旨在 ) at understanding this group, announced its launch ( 成立 ) in Beijing.

The Generation Z Research Center was set up by China Daily, the Department of Sociology at Peking University and the School of Journalism at Fudan University,

The center aims to become an important institution for international communications planning and research, a top-level think tank with Chinese characteristics ( 中国特色 ) and a practical training center.

To better understand Generation Zers, the center has carried out questionnaires ( 调查问卷 ) and interviews with 3,000 young people in 50 countries and regions ( 地区 ), including China, France, Egypt, South Korea, the UK and the US.

The 2022 Global Generation Z Insights Report is the center’s first report. It paints a picture of a global Generation Z, including how they see themselves, their attitude toward life and thoughts on global issues.

The report found that Gen Zers share a strong recognition  ( 认可 ) of the need to create a common future for humanity ( 人类 ). They are more able to think for themselves and more willing to voice their opinions. They question stereotypes ( 刻板印象 ) and believe that they have to work hard to succeed.

          A number of parents have voiced concerns about their children's safety.

 

It also found that the more non-Chinese Gen Zers know about China, the better they like the country. Amy Nicole, 24, a Tsinghua student from the United States, used to think that China was “so behind”. But after coming to the country, she was impressed by the country’s mix of the old and the new. China is progressing ( 进步 ) fast, but has lots of history, she said.
