Main idea:
Due to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, students stay home, attending lessons online or via TV. Students found this method has both benefits and weaknesses.
Understanding the text:
1. Why do students have to study from home?
Because the spring semester for all schools has been postponed due to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.
2. How do they study at home?
A “cloud platform” was launched on Feb 17 to provide students in elementary and secondary schools with education resources covering all major school subjects. Students will be able to attend classes online or via television.
3. What knowledge is offered to students?
School knowledge, epidemic prevention and control tips, education on patriotism, life and psychological health, etc.
4. What does Yuan Siyi think of online teaching and learning?
It has some unexpected benefits, such as more hours of sleep each morning and more freedom, but it also has its weaknesses compared to studying in a physical classroom, for example, low motivation to study.
