Status (地位): world’s longest man-made waterway

Age: more than 2,500 years old

Three parts: Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the Sui and Tang Grand Canal, and the Zhedong Canal

Length: 3,200 kilometers

Influence: the development of Chinese economics (经济) and culture

The Grand Canal played an important role in transporting rice from the south to the north. 

 

The Grand Canal allowed people in different countries, and even different countries, to communicate with each other and share their cultures. They became used to sharing with others and being open to new ideas and different ways of doing things.
