Eight people, six of whom were Asian women, were killed in shootings at three different spas in the US state of Georgia on Tuesday by a 21-year-old.
Videos and images of a 76-year-old Asian woman crying with a bruised (淤青的) eye after being assaulted by a white man in San Francisco have gone viral on social media and shocked the whole world.
In the wake of the shootings, US citizens are refusing to stay silent any longer. A “stop Asian hate” movement has erupted across the US.

The latest shootings in the United States have drawn much attention. On March 16, 21-year-old Aaron Long killed eight people, six of whom were of Asian descent, in the city of Atlanta, Georgia.

3. What’s the history of Asian American violence?
According to the Pew Research Center, more than 20 million people of Asian descent live in the US. The fear of violence against Asians has plagued the community for generations.
The spread of Asian American hate has continued due to misleading information put forth by the media and entertainment industries.
Former US President Donald Trump kept calling the novel coronavirus the “China Virus”. Such labeling has added fuel to anti-Asian violence. But such racism has long been a battle for Asian Americans.
According to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, hate crimes against Asian Americans rose by 150 percent in major US cities in 2020 compared to the previous year.
4. What message can we learn from the movement?
This discrimination and violence must end. We need to face the issue together and stand in solidarity.
After bravely beating off the attacker, the 76-year-old woman donated over $900,000 she raised in donations to help fight against Asian hate in America.
